# Projects

Projects facilitate groups of researchers working together on Redivis. A project represents a set of collaborators, their workflows, and source datasets working around a common research effort.

Projects contain [rich metadata](/reference/projects/metadata-and-provenance.md) and provenance information, and can be assigned a persistent DOI, serving as a citable artifact for your work.

Some restricted datasets have [project requirements](/reference/organizations/requirements.md#applicant-type), in which case your research team must apply for access in the context of a given project.

Any project you belong to will appear in the **Projects** tab of your [workspace](/reference/your-account/workspace.md).
